BLOOD OATH
Zach Barrows is a cocky, ambitious White House employee until he's abruptly transferred out and partnered with Nathaniel Cade, a secret agent sworn to protect the president.
But Cade is no ordinary civil servant. Bound 140 years ago by a special blood oath, Nathanial Cade is a vampire. On the orders of the president he defends the nation against enemies far stranger—and even more dangerous—than civilians like Zach could ever imagine.

THE PRESIDENT’S VAMPIRE
For 140 years, vampire Nathaniel Cade has been bound to protect and serve the United States of America.
When an ancient evil is resurrected, the President's Vampire and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. The prime suspect is a shady private defense contractor who may be dealing with powers far deadlier than any mortal weapon.
So it's up to Cade and Zach to drag the forces of darkness into the light...
Author’s Notes on THE PRESIDENT’S VAMPIRE
There are probably some people who wonder why I decided the world needed another vampire novel, let alone one about a bloodsucker who works for the president.
But to me, changing the War on Terror to the War on Horror didn’t seem like that much of a leap.
My vampire Nathaniel Cade even has his birth in U.S. history. I got the idea when reading a weird factoid about a sailor pardoned by President Andrew Johnson after being accused of killing two men and drinking their blood. I wondered: What would a man sitting in the Oval Office do with a vampire?
Then it hit me. That was the wrong question. The right question is:
What wouldn’t the president do with a vampire?

Since 9/11, it seems that the United States has struggled with one nightmare after another. There’s a feeling that the ground isn’t stable under our feet; that it might crumble at any moment and the graves will open and all kinds of nasty, hungry things will spring out.
You can see how we’re handling it in our hunger for stories of zombies and vampires and conspiracies.
John Connolly’s Charlie Parker is a detective constantly fighting ghosts and demons, both symbolic and literal. Jonathan Maberry pits soldiers against what can only be called mad science; F. Paul Wilson’s Repairman Jack is a street-level fixer forced to confront undying evil. Meanwhile, Justin Cronin and Max Brooks have imagined worlds that show us what happens when humanity loses to horror.

This is where Nathaniel Cade comes in. He’s our front line and last resort in this war. He makes sure the nightmares never infect the brightly lit world of the American dream. He’s able to fight terror with terror.
There are two sayings that constantly go through my head when I’m writing Cade. The first is the old aphorism from Nietzsche: “Whoever fights monsters must take care not to become a monster himself.” The second I read in Shibumi, one of my favorite books of all time: “Who does the harsh things? He who can.”
Cade has already lost his humanity. He’s never going to get it back. So he knows the cost if he fails; he knows how easy it would be to slip into the future as it exists in The Passage.
But he’s able to go into the shadows and survive precisely because he isn’t human. The shadows are where he belongs now.
To paraphrase Franklin D. Roosevelt, Cade might be a monster, but he’s our monster. And in a world filled with terror and darkness, it’s somehow comforting to think that we’ve got something with teeth on our side.

RED, WHITE, AND BLOOD
“This is not a man. In almost a hundred years, I have seen it shot, stabbed, drowned, burned, decapitated, dismembered, and buried. And in almost a hundred years, there’s only one thing that’s ever been able to kill it…Me.”
The campaign trail, 2012: A political operative of the incumbent president and a party volunteer are brutally murdered while in a compromising position. A message has been written in their blood…
“IT'S GOOD TO BE BACK”
A centuries-old horror has returned to taunt Nathaniel Cade, the President's Vampire. Under constant threat of exposure—and with enemies old and new at every turn—he and his handler Zach must stop the one monster Cade has never been able to completely destroy.
And they must do it before the creature known as the Boogeyman adds another victim to his long and bloody list: the President of the United States.

THE BURNING MEN:
A Nathaniel Cade Story
A man stands up in a crowded movie theater. A moment later, everything is burning. When the smoke clears and the bodies are removed, there is no trace of any bomb, or device, or even a matchstick. There's just the corpse of one man, a statue in ash, with an obscene grin still upon his charred skull.
Nothing human could have done this.
Fortunately, Nathaniel Cade isn't human, either. Turned into a blood-drinking abomination 145 years ago, he is bound by a special blood oath to serve and protect the United States from supernatural threats.
Together with his White House handler, Zach Barrows, Cade races to find out who was behind the murders of a dozen innocent people. They have no suspects, no leads, and no explanations.
All they have is Cade's vampiric talents and a ticking countdown to the next explosion. Because Cade is certain of one thing: this is only where the fire starts...

DEEP STATE:
A Nathaniel Cade Story
It’s been four years since a new president ascended to the White House. Zach Barrows has not seen Nathaniel Cade, the President’s Vampire, since being fired from his position as Cade’s handler and sent to a small, cramped office in a government building in Nebraska.
Once he and Cade fought a shadow war against the monsters, spies, and demons that threatened the United States. Now Zach pushes papers and listens to conspiracy theories from people who have no idea how dark the real world can get.
Then Zach is summoned to the Situation Room by President Lester Wyman, who is both the commander-in-chief and a possible traitor.
But he and Cade are bound to follow Wyman’s orders. They are told to find out why a top-secret missile silo has gone offline. If they fail, a nuclear warhead will launch, and the world will die in a hail of fire.
In other words, it’s just another night on the job.
After a long absence, Cade and Zach are back in action together — for what might be the last time.
